Open Doors for a Cause

Oliver Mine Superintendent's House

A warmly lit house under a vibrant aurora borealis in a snowy landscape at night.

Built in 1890

This historic house was built in 1890 for the Superintendent of the Oliver Mining Company. The spacious house has expensive finishes not commonly seen in the homes of miners. The house became private property in the mid 1900s and was home to two Ely families who each enjoyed decades in the house.

Historic Journey to Health

The second family that lived there included one of the founders of Well Being Development, a health care professional who wanted to see permanent support for members of the Ely community who struggle with mental health challenges. She later partnered with Well Being Development (WBD) to have them purchase it and provide a permanent home for WBD programs like Clubhouse. In 2014, the Northern Lights House was established as a Program Center for Well Being Development.

Well Being Development

Well Being Development (WBD) is a hub of behavioral health education and resources that connects people, builds-up our community, and works with partners.

WBD is a trusted community-based nonprofit agency within Ely. It was formed in 2010 by engaged Ely community members wanting to make a difference for their friends, neighbors, and family by providing a place where our most vulnerable community members can feel they belong and are empowered to make positive personal change.
